Griffin Park – 101 Range Road, Windham NH
Highlights: This playground has one of those foam underlays, sparing you the “Put down the mulch!” and “Stop eating the damn mulch!” shouts. There is a structure for young toddlers and one for school-aged children, plus several swings, a fun 4-way seesaw, and though it is missing a gate to keep it fully enclosed, it is so far from the street that it is not a danger if your kid escapes. The smoothly paved pathways make it stroller-friendly and the half-mile loop around the park makes it ideal for a stroller jog. There are open fields, basketball and tennis courts as well. We always seem to run into people with cute friendly dogs here who let our kids throw tennis balls for them, which is a bonus. The entire facility is well-cared for. They even decorate the entrance for fall with flowers and hay bales.
Bummers: There is no shade, so you’ll need to pack the SPF 30. In summer it can get pretty hot out there.
What’s nearby: Next door is Johnson’s Highland View Farm, which has a farm stand open May through October that serves Richardson’s Ice Cream.
Enclosed: Yes, but there’s no gate on the entrance
Restrooms: Real bathroom facilities spring through fall.
Seating: Five benches within the fenced playground area.
Parking: Large paved lot
